ABSTRACT: Unchanged reference values of grain nutrient contents for corn have been used for over 20 years, despite yield increases, the development of new hybrids, and modifications to cropping systems, especially the establishment of in-season second crops and the wide adoption of no-tillage. This study measured macro- and micronutrient contents in corn grains from different regions, in the first (summer) and second (fall) crop, to update the reference values of estimated nutrient removal. A secondary objective was to determine whether there were correlations between grain nutrient contents and grain yields and densities. In this study, 175 corn grain samples of experiments on cultivar evaluation and 22 samples from soil management trials from five states (SP, PR, MG, MT, and MS) were used. Grain nutrient contents were ranked as follows: N > K > P > Mg > S (g kg−1) and Ca > Zn > Fe > Mn > B > Cu (mg kg−1). Content values for half of the nutrients analyzed were negatively correlated with yield and/or seed weight, whereas grain density was not correlated with nutrient contents. For the first crop of corn, the N, S, and Cu contents clearly decreased with increases in grain yield and seed weight, indicating a lower nutrient removal at higher yields. The great variability of results among environments makes it difficult to differentiate between the first and second crop of corn. The reference values currently in use overestimate the removal of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, and Zn grain contents, but underestimate Cu and B in corn. The results of this study can be used to update the reference values of nutrient contents of corn grains to better estimate nutrient removal from the soil.

RESUMO Técnicas sustentáveis de manejo na cultura do milho são necessárias, visando aumento de produtividade, minimizando custos e impactos ambientais. Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar diferentes coberturas vegetais (milheto, crotalária, guandu, milheto + crotalária, milheto + guandu e pousio), doses de N (0; 40; 80 e 120 kg ha-1) com e sem a inoculação de sementes com Azospirillum brasilense na cultura do milho, na região do Cerrado. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 6x4x2, constituindo 48 tratamentos, com 4 repetições. O estudo foi realizado no município de Selvíria-MS. As coberturas vegetais, exceto o guandu no primeiro ano e pousio no segundo, produziram quantidade adequada de resíduo (6 t ha-1) para manter o sistema plantio direto na região de Cerrado, com destaque ao tratamento com milheto + crotalária. As produtividades de milho em sucessão à guandu e milheto + crotalária foram superiores. Em área de sistema plantio direto estabilizada, o fornecimento de nitrogênio via fertilizante, possibilita aumento de produtividade até a dose de 114 kg ha-1 de N. A inoculação com Azospirillum brasilense via semente, propiciou menor população final de plantas, altura de plantas e a massa de mil grãos.

ABSTRACT With the aim of increasing productivity, and minimising costs and environmental impact, sustainable management techniques are necessary when growing maize. The aim of this study was to evaluate different cover crops (millet, crotalaria, pigeon pea, millet + crotalaria, millet + pigeon pea and fallow) and doses of N (0, 40, 80 and 120 kg ha-1), both with and without seed inoculation with Azospirillum brasilense of the maize crop, in the Cerrado region of Brazil. The experimental design was of randomised blocks, in a 6 x 4 x 2 factorial scheme, comprising 48 treatments with 4 replications. The study was carried out in the town of Selvíria, in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul. Plant cover, except for the pigeon pea in the first year and the fallow in the second year, produced enough residue (6 t ha-1) to maintain the no-tillage system in the Cerrado region, especially the treatment with millet + crotalaria. Maize production in succession to the pigeon pea and the millet + crotalaria was higher. In an area with a stabilised no-tillage system, the supply of nitrogen using fertiliser, gives an increase in productivity up to a dose of 114 kg N ha-1. Inoculating the seeds with Azospirillum brasilense gave a smaller final plant population, less plant height and lower 100-grain weight.

RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a melhor dose de atrazina no controle de plantas de soja em meio ao milho safrinha consorciado com Brachiaria ruziziensis (B. ruziziensis), bem como sua interação com diferentes doses de nicosulfuron, de forma a não afetar os benefícios do consórcio. Foram realizados dois bioensaios, o primeiro com seis doses de atrazina (0; 0,6; 0,8; 1,0; 1,2; e 1,4 kgi.a. ha-1). As avaliações foram realizadas 15 e 30 dias após a aplicação (DAA), baseadas na porcentagem de controle das plantas de soja, no número de plantas de B. ruziziensis, no rendimento de grãos de milho e na massa seca do capim. O segundo bioensaio foi conduzido em esquema fatorial 3 (doses de nicosulfuron) × 2 (sem e com atrazina), com duas testemunhas adicionais (testemunha capinada e testemunha sem capina). As doses de nicosulfuron utilizadas foram 2,0; 4,0; e 6,0 gi.a. ha-1, e a dose de atrazina foi de 0,8 kgi.a. ha-1. Doses crescentes de atrazina resultaram em melhor controle das plantas de soja e maior rendimento de grãos de milho. Doses superiores a 1,0 kgi.a. ha-1 de atrazina resultaram em redução na massa seca do capim. A adição de 0,8 kgi.a. ha-1 de atrazina com 2,0; 4,0; ou 6,0 gi.a. ha-1 de nicosulfuron aumentou o controle de plantas de soja em comparação com as doses isoladas de nicosulfuron, não influenciou o número de plantas e a massa seca do capim e proporcionou incremento no rendimento de grãos de milho.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to evaluate the best dose of atrazine in soybean control in winter maize intercropped with Brachiaria ruziziensis (B. ruziziensis), as well as its interaction with different doses of nicosulfuron, in a way as not to affect the benefits of farming-pasture integration. Two bioassays were made, the first one with six doses of atrazine (0.0, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, and 1.4 kga.i. ha-1). Evaluations were performed 15 and 30 days after application, based on the percentage of soybean plants control, number of plants of B. ruziziensis, maize grain yield and dry mass of the grass. The second bioassay was conducted in split plot 3 (doses of nicosulfuron) × 2 (with and without atrazine), with two additional witnesses (hand weeded and weeded treatment). Nicosulfuron doses used were 2.0, 4.0 and 6.0 ga.i. ha-1, and atrazine dose used was 0.8 kga.i. ha-1. Increasing doses of atrazine resulted in better soybean plants control and higher maize grain yield. Doses higher than 1.0 kga.i. ha-1 of atrazine resulted in decreased dry mass of the grass. The addition of 0.8 kga.i. ha-1 of atrazine with 2.0, 4.0 and 6.0 ga.i. ha-1 of nicosulfuron increased soybean plants control compared with single doses of nicosulfuron, did not influence the number of plants nor dry mass of the grass and provided increase in maize grain yield.

O uso de práticas conservacionistas em sistemas de produção é fundamental para a sustentabilidade da capacidade produtiva agrícola. A utilização de diferentes coberturas vegetais pode reduzir a necessidade de fertilizantes nitrogenados em cobertura, na cultura do trigo. Este trabalho objetivou avaliar a influência de resíduos de coberturas vegetais (milheto, crotalária, guandu, milheto + crotalária, milheto + guandu e área em pousio), cultivadas anteriormente à cultura de verão (arroz), e doses de nitrogênio em cobertura (0 kg ha-1, 25 kg ha-1, 50 kg ha-1, 75 kg ha-1, 100 kg ha-1 e 125 kg ha-1), no desenvolvimento e produtividade de trigo em sistema plantio direto. O estudo foi realizado em Selvíria (MS), em 2009/2010 e 2010/2011, em Latossolo Vermelho. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 6x6. As coberturas vegetais desenvolveram-se durante agosto/outubro (2009/2010) e setembro/novembro (2010/2011), anteriormente à cultura de verão, sendo a dessecação química realizada aos 73 e 55 dias após a semeadura, respectivamente. O trigo (inverno) foi semeado em maio, em ambos os períodos, e colhido aos 113 (2009/2010) e 106 (2010/2011) dias após a emergência. Os resíduos vegetais de guandu, crotalária e milheto + crotalária, antecedendo o trigo, proporcionaram maiores produtividades do trigo, em relação à área em pousio. A produtividade do trigo apresentou resposta quadrática, em relação ao aumento da disponibilidade de nitrogênio, obtendo-se maiores produtividades com as doses de nitrogênio estimadas em 113 kg ha-1 (2010) e 98 kg ha-1 (2011).

The application of conservation practices in production systems is essential to the sustainability of the agricultural production capacity. The use of different cover crops can reduce the need of topdressing nitrogen fertilizers in wheat crops. This study aimed at evaluating the influence of cover crops residues (millet, sunn hemp, pigeon pea, millet + sunn hemp, millet + pigeon pea and fallow ground), grown previously to the summer crop (rice), and topdressing nitrogen doses (0 kg ha-1, 25 kg ha-1, 50 kg ha-1, 75 kg ha-1, 100 kg ha-1 and 125 kg ha-1), in the development and yield of wheat under no-tillage system. The experiment was carried out in Selvíria, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil, in a Red Oxisol, in 2009/2010 and 2010/2011. The experimental design was randomized blocks, in a 6x6 factorial scheme. The cover crops developed during August/October (2009/2010) and September/November (2010/2011), previously to the summer crop, with the chemical desiccation performed respectively at 73 and 55 days after sowing. The wheat (winter) was sown in May, in both periods, and harvested at 113 (2009/2010) and 106 (2010/2011) days after emergence. The cover crops residues of pigeon pea, sunn hemp and millet + sunn hemp, preceding wheat, provided higher wheat yields, relatively to the fallow ground. The wheat yield showed a quadratic response to the increase in the nitrogen availability, reaching higher yields with the nitrogen doses estimated in 113 kg ha-1 (2010) and 98 kg ha-1 (2011).

O acamamento de plantas em cultivares de arroz, no momento da colheita, acarreta perdas significativas à produtividade. O uso de reguladores vegetais é uma das alternativas para reduzir o acamamento, entretanto, as informações sobre este assunto ainda são escassas. Este trabalho foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de avaliar o uso de doses de etil-trinexapac (0 g ha-1, 50 g ha-1, 100 g ha-1, 150 g ha-1 e 200 g ha-1 do i.a.), aplicadas por ocasião da diferenciação floral, em cultivares de arroz com diferentes tipos de plantas (Caiapó - tradicional; BRS Primavera e BRS Soberana - intermediário; e IAC 202 - moderno), avaliando o desenvolvimento e a produtividade de grãos. O experimento foi desenvolvido no município de Selvíria (MS), durante o ano agrícola de 2007/2008. Concluiu-se que a aplicação de 50 g ha-1, 100 g ha-1 e 150 g ha-1 de etil-trinexapac, por ocasião da diferenciação do primórdio da panícula das cultivares Caiapó, BRS Soberana e BRS Primavera, respectivamente, reduziu a altura de plantas e proporcionou ausência de acamamento; a cultivar IAC 202 dispensou o uso de regulador de crescimento, considerando-se que a mesma praticamente não apresentou acamamento; a aplicação de 50 g ha-1 e 150 g ha-1 de etil-trinexapac, por ocasião da diferenciação do primórdio da panícula, melhorou a produtividade da cultivar Caiapó e BRS Primavera, respectivamente, e a dose de 100 g ha-1 interferiu pouco na cultivar BRS Soberana.

The lodging of some rice cultivars, at harvest time, can cause significant losses in grain yield. The use of plant regulators is one of the alternatives to reduce lodging, however, information on that subject are still scarce. This study aimed to evaluate the use of ethyl-trinexapac doses (0 g ha-1, 50 g ha-1, 100 g ha-1, 150 g ha-1, and 200 g ha-1), at the floral differentiation stage, in rice cultivars with different types of plants (Caiapó - traditional; BRS Primavera and BRS Soberana - intermediate; and IAC 202 - modern), in order to evaluate grain development and yield. The experiment was carried out in Selvíria, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil, during the 2007/2008 growing season. It was observed that the application of 50 g ha-1, 100 g ha-1, and 150 g ha-1 of ethyl-trinexapac, during the floral differentiation stage of the Caiapó, BRS Soberana, and BRS Primavera cultivars, respectively, decreased plants height and eliminated lodging; it was not necessary to use growth regulator for the IAC 202 cultivar, due to its lack of lodging; the application of 50 g ha-1 and 150 g ha-1 of ethyl-trinexapac, during the floral differentiation stage, improved grain yield for the Caiapó and BRS Primavera cultivars, respectively, and the 100 g ha-1 dose interfered little in the BRS Soberana cultivar.

É importante a busca por melhores rentabilidades para a cultura do trigo por meio de tecnologias que reduzam custos de produção e proporcionem sustentabilidade à agricultura brasileira. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a rentabilidade da cultura do trigo em sistema plantio direto, visando reduzir doses de nitrogênio em cobertura, pelo cultivo de adubos verdes anterior ao do trigo. O experimento foi realizado em Selvíria (MS), Brasil, no ano 2009/10. O delineamento utilizado foi o de blocos casualizados com 36 tratamentos, em parcelas subdividas, com quatro repetições. As parcelas foram formadas por seis tipos de adubos verdes (guandu BRS Mandarim, Crotalaria juncea, milheto BRS 1501, pousio e os consórcios milheto + guandu e milheto + crotalária), que forneceram palha para o plantio direto do trigo no inverno, após a cultura de arroz na safra de verão. As subparcelas foram formadas por seis doses de nitrogênio (0, 25, 50,75, 100 e 125 kg ha-1 de N) em uma aplicação em cobertura, ten-do como fonte a ureia. O trigo cultivado, após a semeadura dos adubos verdes na safra de inverno anterior, sem a aplicação de nitrogênio em cobertura e na dose 25 kg ha-1 de N, apresentou com maior frequência custos de produção superior à receita bruta. O custo de produção de trigo cultivado após os consórcios de milheto + guandu e milheto + crotalária na safra de inverno anterior, associado a doses de nitrogênio de 50 e 75 kg ha-1 de N, proporcionou maior lucratividade em relação aos demais adubos verdes avaliados.

The search for higher profitability in wheat crop with cost reduction technologies that may promote sustainability is an important matter in Brazilian agriculture. This study evaluated the profitability of no-tilled wheat, reducing nitrogen topdressing doses with the cultivation of green manure before the wheat crop. The experiment was carried out in Selvíria (MS), Brazil, in 2009/10. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design with 36 treatments in splitplots and four replicates. The plots were formed by six types of green manure: Cajanus cajan L. BRS Mandarin, Crotalaria juncea L., Pennisetum americanum L. BRS 1501, fallow area and mixed cropping of Pennisetum americanum L. + Cajanus cajan L. and Pennisetum americanum L. + crotalaria which provided straw for no-tilled wheat in the winter, following the rice crop in the summer. The subplots were formed by six levels of topdressing nitrogen (0, 25, 50, 75, 100 and 125 kg N ha-1) using urea as a nitrogen source. The wheat grown after green manure in the previous winter crop, with no nitrogen topdressing and a rate of 25 kg ha-1 N, had more frequently production costs above the gross income. Wheat production cost after the mixed cropping Pennisetum americanum L. + Cajanus cajan L. and Pennisetum americanum L. + Crotalaria juncea L. from the previous winter crop, combined with nitrogen rates of 50 and 75 kg N ha-1, provided better profitability compared with the other green manures evaluated.

O arroz é importante fonte de energia e proteínas para a população mundial, principalmente na Ásia e Oceania. No Brasil, juntamente com o feijão, constitui a base da alimentação. Tecnologias sustentáveis que reduzam custos da produção e aumentem a produtividade do arroz podem garantir seu suprimento em períodos de alta demanda. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar diferentes coberturas vegetais antecessoras (milheto [Pennisetum americanum], crotalária [Crotalaria juncea], guandu [Cajanus cajan], braquiária [Brachiaria ruziziensis], milheto + crotalária e milheto + guandu), doses de nitrogênio (N) em cobertura (0, 40, 80 e 120 kg ha-1) e o efeito da inoculação de sementes com Azospirillum brasilense no arroz de terras altas em sistema plantio direto no desenvolvimento e na produtividade. Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados em esquema fatorial 6x4x2 com quatro repetições. O estudo foi desenvolvido em um Latossolo Vermelho, em Selvíria, Estado do Mato Grosso do Sul, Brasil, em 2011/2012. O cultivo do guandu antecedendo o arroz proporcionou maior produtividade do arroz somente em comparação a B. ruziziensi. A produtividade do arroz em função das doses de N em cobertura se ajustou a uma função quadrática. Não houve influência da inoculação de sementes com A. brasilense sobre a produtividade do arroz, porém houve interação entre a inoculação e as coberturas vegetais sobre o teor de N foliar, número de panículas por m², matéria seca de plantas de arroz e a massa de cem grãos.

Rice is an important source of energy and protein for the world population, mainly in Asia and Oceania. In Brazil, together with common beans, it is the population's basic food. Sustainable technologies that reduce rice production costs and increase productivity can warrant its supply on period of high demand. The objective of this study was to evaluate different preceding cover crops (millet [Pennisetum americanum], sunn hemp [Crotalaria juncea], pigeon pea [Cajanus cajan], Brachiaria ruziziensis, millet + sunn hemp and millet + pigeon pea), rates of nitrogen (N) fertilization at sidedressing (0, 40, 80 and 120 kg ha-1) and the effects of seed inoculation with Azospirillum brasilense in upland rice under no-tillage system on crop growth and yield. The experimental design was in complete randomized blocks, in a factorial scheme 6x4x2 with four replications. The experiment was set up on a Red Oxisol in Selvíria, State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, in 2011/2012. Pigeon pea preceding rice cropping provided higher rice yield only in comparison with B. ruziziensis. The rice yield as function of rates of N at sidedressing fit to a quadratic function. There was no influence of seeds inoculation with A. brasilense on rice yield, however, there was interaction between the inoculation and cover crops on the leaf of N content, number of panicles per m², dry rice plants and weight of 100 grains.

O acamamento de algumas cultivares de arroz, no momento da colheita, acarreta perdas significativas na produtividade e, além disto, manejos de água e nitrogênio inadequados, em condições de alta tecnologia, agravam, ainda mais, o problema. O uso de reguladores vegetais é uma das alternativas para se reduzir o acamamento, entretanto, as informações sobre o assunto são escassas. O trabalho objetivou avaliar o uso de subdoses de glyphosate (26 g ha-1, 52 g ha-1, 78 g ha-1, 104 g ha-1, 130 g ha-1, 156 g ha-1 e 182 g ha-1) sobre as características agronômicas, desenvolvimento e produtividade do arroz de terras altas irrigado por aspersão, aplicadas na época da diferenciação floral. O experimento foi desenvolvido no município de Selvíria (MS), durante os anos agrícolas 2008/2009 e 2009/2010. O aumento das subdoses de glyphosate, aplicadas na época da diferenciação floral da cultivar Primavera, reduziu a altura de plantas, o tamanho das panículas e, consequentemente, a produtividade. Subdoses iguais ou superiores a 78 g ha-1 eliminaram o acamamento de plantas.

The lodging of some rice cultivars at harvest time can lead to significant losses in yield, and the inappropriate water and nitrogen management, under high-tech conditions, can aggravate the problem. The use of vegetal regulators is an alternative to reduce lodging, however, information on this topic are rare. The study aimed to evaluate the application of glyphosate sub doses (26 g ha-1, 52 g ha-1, 78 g ha-1, 104 g ha-1, 130 g ha-1, 156 g ha-1, and 182 g ha-1) on agronomical traits, development, and yield of upland rice crops irrigated by aspersion, during the floral differentiation period. The experiment was carried out in Selvíria, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil, through the agricultural years of 2008/2009 and 2009/2010. The increase of glyphosate sub doses, at the floral differentiation period of the Primavera cultivar, reduced the plants height, panicle size, and, consequently, yield. Sub doses higher than or equal to 78 g ha-1 eliminated the plants lodging process.

Estudos têm evidenciado a viabilidade da aplicação de reguladores de crescimento na agricultura, entretanto, informações referentes à sua utilização em crotalária ainda são escassas. Diante disto, este trabalho objetivou avaliar a influência da aplicação foliar de reguladores de crescimento (cloreto de mepiquat, etil-trinexapac e paclobutrazol), em diferentes doses (0 g ha-1, 75 g ha-1, 150 g ha-1, 225 g ha-1 e 300 g ha-1), sobre o desenvolvimento vegetativo e reprodutivo de Crotalaria juncea L. O experimento foi conduzido em 2010, em Selvíria (MS). O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos ao acaso, em esquema fatorial 3x5 (reguladores x doses), com quatro repetições. Foram mensurados caracteres agronômicos e produtividade e os resultados submetidos ao teste F, sendo as médias de reguladores comparadas pelo teste Tukey (p < 0,05) e as de doses pela análise de regressão. Os reguladores de crescimento influenciaram no desenvolvimento vegetativo e reprodutivo da crotalária. O incremento nas doses de etil-trinexapac e paclobutrazol reduziu linearmente a altura de planta, ao passo que, para o cloreto de mepiquat e paclobutrazol, houve aumento no número de vagens e sementes por planta e redução de produtividade. A população final de plantas, número de sementes por vagem e massa de mil sementes não foram afetados pelos reguladores.

Studies have pointed out the viability of the application of growth regulators in agriculture, however, information referring their use in Crotalaria juncea are still rare. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the influence of the foliar application of growth regulators (mepiquat chloride, etil-trinexapac, and paclobutrazol), at different doses (0 g ha-1, 75 g ha-1, 150 g ha-1, 225 g ha-1, and 300 g ha-1), on the vegetative and reproductive development of Crotalaria juncea L. The experiment was carried out in 2010, in Selvíria, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil. The experimental design was randomized blocks, in a 3x5 (regulators x doses) factorial scheme, with four replications. Agronomic traits, yield, and the F test results were evaluated, being the regulators averages compared by the Tukey test (p < 0.05) and doses compared by regression analysis. Growth regulators influenced the vegetative and reproductive development of Crotalaria juncea. The increase of etil-trinexapac and paclobutrazol doses reduced linearly the plant height, while the use of mepiquat chloride and paclobutrazol increased the number of pods and seeds per plant and reduced yield. The final plants population, number of seeds per pod, and weight of one thousand seeds were not affected by the growth regulators.

O aproveitamento do nitrogênio pelo feijoeiro é dependende da fonte, dose e época de aplicação. Com o objetivo de se avaliar o efeito de fontes e épocas de aplicação de N sobre feijoeiro cultivado em sistema plantio direto, desenvolveu-se o presente trabalho, no município de Selvíria (MS), em 2006 e 2007, com os tratamentos dispostos em delineamento de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 3x6, com quatro repetições. Foram avaliadas fontes de N (ureia, entec e sulfato de amônio) e épocas de aplicação (testemunha - sem N, semeadura, estádio de desenvolvimento V3, estádio de desenvolvimento V4-5, 1/3 semeadura + 2/3 estádio V3 e 1/3 semeadura + 2/3 estádio V4-5). As fontes de N tiveram influência semelhante sobre a produtividade do feijoeiro, afetando apenas o teor de N foliar, em 2006, sendo que a utilização de entec proporcionou concentrações do nutriente, nas folhas, equivalentes às da ureia. A aplicação de todo o N na semeadura afetou a população inicial e final de plantas, em 2006, sendo que o mesmo não foi observado em 2007. As épocas de aplicação não influenciaram na produtividade de grãos da cultura, em ambos os anos de cultivo, porém, em 2006, a adubação nitrogenada incrementou a produtividade em mais de 100%, em média, independentemente da época de aplicação.

The use of nitrogen by common bean is dependent on the source, dose and application time. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of N sources and application times on common bean under no-till system, in Selvíria, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil, in 2006 and 2007. Treatments were disposed in a randomized blocks design, in a 3x6 factorial scheme, with four replications. Nitrogen sources (urea, entec, and ammonium sulfate) and application times (control - without N, at sowing, at the V3 development stage, at the V4-5 development stage, 1/3 at sowing + 2/3 at the V3 stage, and 1/3 at sowing + 2/3 at the V4-5 stage) were evaluated. The N sources had similar influence on common bean yield, affecting only the N leaf content, in 2006, and the use of entec provided leaf nutrient concentrations equivalent to the urea ones. The application of all available N at sowing affected the initial and final plant stands, in 2006, while the same was not observed in 2007. Application times did not influence on grains yield, for both years, however, in 2006, the nitrogen fertilization increased yield in more than 100%, on average, independently of the application time.

O desempenho de máquinas e implementos agrícolas é de fundamental importância, principalmente quando estão sujeitos a diferentes tipos de preparo de solo, tendo que se adaptar a estas condições para promover uma boa capacidade operacional. Objetivou-se, com este trabalho, analisar o desempenho operacional de semeadora-adubadora Marchesan Cop Suprema, equipada com quatro fileiras, com espaçamento 0,90 m, em função de três tipos de preparo do solo: convencional (aração e duas gradagens), reduzido (escarificação com rolo destorroador) e semeadura direta, em área anteriormente semeada com milho (Zea mays L.), em dois espaçamentos (0,90 m e 0,45 m). Os resultados indicam que a exigência de potência, força de tração e rotação do motor, na operação de semeadura, não foram influenciadas pelo preparo do solo e cultivo do milho. A patinagem dos rodados do trator apresentou diferenças, sendo menor na semeadura direta e maior no preparo convencional e reduzido.

The performance of machines and agricultural implements are of fundamental importance, especially when subjected to different types of soil tillage, and have to adapt to these conditions, in order to promote good operational performance. The objective of this study was to analyze the operational performance of a Marchesan Supreme Cop grain drill, equipped with four rows, spaced 0.90 m, according to three types of tillage: conventional tillage (plowing and two harrowing series), reduced tillage (scarification with a roller), and no-tillage, in areas previously seeded with maize (Zea mays L.), at two spacing measures (0.90 m and 0.45 m). The results indicate that the demand for power, tensile stress, and motor rotation, in the sowing operation, were not influenced by tillage and maize crop. The tractor wheel slip showed different results, being lower in no-tillage and higher in conventional and reduced tillage.

Práticas agronômicas que ajudem o agricultor a elevar a produtividade e a diminuir os custos de produção devem ser estudadas para garantir a sustentabilidade da agricultura. Assim, desenvolveu-se um experimento com o objetivo de estudar o efeito do manejo do solo, do nitrogênio e do espaçamento entrelinhas na cultura do milho em dois anos agrícolas. O experimento foi instalado sobre um Latossolo Vermelho Distrófico em delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados em esquema fatorial 3 x 5 x 2 com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram constituídos pela combinação de três manejos do solo (grade aradora + grade niveladora, escarificador + grade niveladora e plantio direto), cinco épocas de aplicação do nitrogênio [testemunha sem N, 120 kg ha-1 na semeadura (S), 120 kg ha-1 no estádio fenológico V6, 30 kg ha-1 (S) + 90 kg ha-1 em V6, 30 kg ha-1 (S) + 45 kg ha-1 em V4 + 45 kg ha-1 em V8] e dois espaçamentos entrelinhas (0,45 e 0,90 m) com população fixa. Concluiu-se que o sistema plantio direto promoveu maior população final de plantas e maior produtividade de grãos; a aplicação precoce de todo o N proporcionou produtividade de grãos semelhante aos manejos com parcelamento, e o espaçamento de 0,90 promoveu maior massa seca dasplantas quando o preparo foi feito com grade aradora + niveladora.

Agronomic practices that help the farmer raise the yield and reduce costs must be studied to ensure the sustainability of agriculture. Thinking about it, an experiment was conducted to study the effect of soil management, nitrogen fertilization and the row spacing in maize crop. It was developed in Distrophic Red Latossol. The experimental design was randomized in split plot in a factorial 3 x 5 x 2 with 4 repetitions. The treatments were constituted by the combination of three soil managements (plow harrow + "floating harrows", chisel +" floating harrows" and no tillage), five times of nitrogen supply [control without N, 120 kg ha-1 at sowing (S), 120 kg ha-1 at V6 stage, 30 kg ha-1 (S) + 90 kg ha-1 at V6, 30 kg ha-1 (S) + 45 kg ha-1 at V4 + 45 kg ha-1 at V8] and two row spacings (0.45 and 0.90 m) with the same plants stand. It was concluded that the no tillage system promotes better plant population, and higher grain yield; the nitrogen supply only at sowing promoted grain yield similar to the treatments that the N was divided; the 0.90 m row spacing promoted greater plant stand when the soil management was done with plow harrow + "floating harrow".

O feijão, juntamente com o arroz, constitui a base da alimentação dos brasileiros e para que possa ao mesmo tempo ser rentável ao produtor e acessível a toda população, é preciso desenvolver técnicas que elevem a produtividade com baixo custo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar o efeito dos mecanismos de abertura de sulco para a deposição de fertilizantes (haste e disco duplo), da inoculação de sementes de feijão cultivar Pérola com estirpes de Rhizobium tropici com diferentes níveis de nitrogênio em cobertura (zero, 60, 120 e 180 kg ha-1) no feijoeiro cultivado em sistema plantio direto. Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados em esquema fatorial 2x2x4. O estudo foi desenvolvido no município de Selvíria (MS), em Latossolo Vermelho distrófico argiloso em 2006 e 2007. Conclui-se que o mecanismo de abertura do tipo haste promove a maior população final de plantas quando comparado ao uso do disco duplo desencontrado, incrementando a produtividade de grãos. A inoculação de sementes com Rhizobium tropici não interferiu no teor de N nas folhas bem como na produtividade de grãos. A adubação nitrogenada em cobertura proporcionou incrementos no teor de N nas folhas e na produtividade de grãos do feijoeiro de inverno.

Common bean and rice make the daily staple food of the Brazilian population. There is need to improve crop management techniques to increase yield of common bean leading to a decrease in the production costs to enable reasonable prices for consumers. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of furrow opening mechanisms for fertilizer deposition (double disk and knife coulter), inoculation of seeds with Rhizobium tropici and different levels of nitrogen fertilization at sidedressing ( Zero, 60, 120 e 180 kg ha-1) on crop growth and yield, and leaf nitrogen (N) content. The experiment design was a randomized block in a factorial scheme 2x2x4 and it was set up on a clayey Oxisol in Selviria, State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, in 206 and 2007. Opening knife coulter caused larger final plant population than double disk and led to an increase the grain yield. The seed inoculation with Rhizobium tropici did not interfere in the leaf N content and in the grain yield. The sidedressing nitrogen fertilization provided increments of leaf N content and in the grain yield of winter common bean crop.
